The bike-camping excursion–including all meals and bike support–costs $199 per person with 10% of each entry going to Mar De Colores mar-de-colores.org. Gordon Yeager, owner of local bike shop Velo Hangar, will provide mechanical and moral support on the ride.

“What a weekend! This was such a warm way to get to know my community. The ride was perfect— easy enough for anyone who hasn’t had their butt on a bike seat for prolonged periods of time before, but challenging enough to make the delicious food feel well-earned. Ed, Ron, Gordon and the whole Patagonia crew were as welcoming as can be. Touring both the farm and Ed’s workshop, snacking on jujubes, hand-making tortillas, and sleeping under the stars were other standout highlights of the trip. I can’t recommend this mini adventure enough! You’ll leave feeling full up on all the good feels and you’ll likely have a few new friends to your name as well.” - Mac

The bike to farm trip was such an incredible weekend experience. I started the adventure only knowing the few people I came with, and left with a whole new group of inspiring friends. For someone who rarely bikes, the ride was definitely manageable (although challenging in moments!), and the beautiful views + cheerful company were powerful motivation to keep going. Ed’s place is such a magical little haven, and he is always a wonderful host. Ron’s dinner buffet was mouth-wateringly delicious - I think it tasted extra good because of the contagiously huge smile that he had on his face the whole time he was cooking. :) We explored around the farm to try jujubes and cattails, watched the inspiring film Cycle of Ancestry, and shared many laughs under the stars. This thoughtfully curated adventure is one that will remain fondly in my memories forever! - Henny

Frequently Asked Questions

When to meet? Meet at Patagonia Cardiff at 8:30 am on Saturday, June 10th. Coffee and donuts will be available.

Do I need racks for my camp gear? Guests have the option to bike their camp gear or have it transported for you. To have it transported for you, please bring all camping gear to the Patagonia Cardiff store before the ride.

When do we return? We will return to Patagonia Cardiff around 3 pm on Sunday, June 11th.

Will my bike work for this bike packing event? Almost any geared bike that you can ride 40 miles will work—beach cruisers or fixies are not a good choice because of the hilly terrain. The route to Enjoy the Farm is mostly paved roads and bike paths with some packed dirt.

Is my skill level up for this? We will ride 4-5 hours and you will be challenged with some moderately difficult inclines. We will ride as a group with plenty of encouragement. This adventure is probably not ideal for first-time cyclists.

What gear should I bring? You will need basic cycling and camping gear. You can bike pack your gear or we can transport it there for you. After you sign up, we will send you our recommended gear list.

Do I need to bring food? You will be well fed with nutritious, vegetarian food! But, be sure to eat breakfast on Saturday morning before we roll out. And, bring a light snack with you in case you get hungry during the ride. All other meals will be supplied from our amazing team.

Who are the bike guides? Dave Hopkins and Matteo Pistono.

Dave Hopkins has worked with Patagonia for 11 years and started in NYC. He cycle toured the Oregon and California coast as well as developed a car free ride from NYC through the Delaware water gap and back to NYC. Now he works to keep the Cardiff store running smooth and catch a few waves.
Matteo Pistono leads bike packing trips and social rides for Patagonia Cardiff. A Wyoming native, Matteo has been riding on dirt since he started pedaling a bike and continues to seek out cycling adventures including endurance mountain bike races and multi-day bike packing trips. When he is not cycling, Matteo writes books about Buddhism and meditation.
